A second car would be fantastic as a "beater"...everything has problems, though it sounds as if you may have found something that shouldn't be passed up. I'm not going to delve into the loan/credit car/etc dilemma because I'm in your same situation...except I'm not too positive as to how the finances would be including my college, current car, etc. Unexpected issues on a tight budget are a very bad thing, but that's just me - You could also always try contacting the seller...See if you can set up a payment plan of sorts - I've seen some people do it. In addition, if he's not really in need of the money, but for whatever reason needs to get rid of the Z, you may be able to talk him into holding it, though I don't see that as probable.
